Frankfurt am Main

Geisenheim and the Rheingau
In the Rheingau, paths wind through vineyards and small wine-growing villages. Explore the landscape on foot or by bike, stopping along the way for a bite to eat: a relaxed blend of fresh air, far-reaching views and local flavours.
Diemelsee
At Diemelsee, take in the water and wooded shores on a boat trip. There’s time on deck to watch the landscape drift by together, then round off your outing with a walk along the lakeside.
Willingen (Upland)
Around Willingen, paths lead through the Upland’s open mountain landscape. On the Uplandsteig, discover quiet stretches of woodland and sweeping views; as a couple, you can set your own pace and take plenty of breaks along the way.
Kellerwald-Edersee
In Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, natural trails wind through ancient beech forests. Take in the landscape at your leisure, listen to the sounds of the forest and round off your outing with a quiet moment together by the water at Edersee.
Our pick for adults
Geisenheim
At Schloss Johannisberg winery, you can sample Rheingau wines and take your time over the aromas and conversation. The view across the vines makes for a delightful outing for two.
Hesse lies in the heart of Germany, which makes getting there especially straightforward. The A3, A5 and A7 get you there quickly from almost any direction, while Frankfurt Airport makes travelling from many European cities easier. If you arrive by train, you get off in Frankfurt, Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe or Wiesbaden, with the uplands almost right on your doorstep. Adults Oasis lists six adults-only hotels in Hesse: all child-free and designed for adult guests.
What makes Hesse particularly appealing for a stay without children's noise is the mix of experiences. Frankfurt and Wiesbaden are within easy reach, but as soon as you drive into the Taunus, the Rhön or along the Bergstrasse, things become peaceful. You will not find this close combination of city and nature everywhere.
Hesse is spa country. Bad Homburg, Bad Nauheim, Bad Wildungen and Bad Orb do not carry “Bad” in their names by chance: people have been taking spa cures here for generations. Hesse's spa tradition shapes the region, although specific wellness facilities vary from hotel to hotel. For couples, it is precisely the child-free atmosphere that makes the difference. You do not have to share the sauna with a family holiday group, and the pool stays quiet.
If you enjoy wine, the Rheingau is your place. The steep vineyards above the Rhine between Wiesbaden and Rüdesheim are among Germany's best-known Riesling regions, and a walk through the vines with a glass of wine in the evening is the kind of romance that needs no staging. Eberbach Abbey and the small wineries invite you to tastings, all without the rush.
Hesse has more to offer gastronomically than its reputation might suggest. Of course, green sauce, Handkäse and apple wine are part of the region, but Frankfurt and the Rheingau in particular have an ambitious food scene that takes regional ingredients seriously.
Hesse is surprisingly green. The Taunus with the Großer Feldberg, the Spessart as one of Germany's largest contiguous forest areas, the Rhön with its wide high plateaux and the Odenwald in the south: these are landscapes where you can hike, cycle and simply take a deep breath without finding yourself in a crowd.
Hesse works well all year round, but the focus shifts with the seasons. In May and June, when the traditional orchards are in bloom and the uplands are fresh and green, hiking is at its best. Late summer and early autumn belong to the Rheingau: the grape harvest is under way, the slopes take on colour and the wine villages are in season. In winter, the thermal baths and spas are especially appealing, when the uplands lie peacefully outside and you can stay warm indoors. If you prefer things especially quiet, come during the week outside the school holidays.
All six hotels listed by Adults Oasis in Hesse are exclusively for adults. That means no children's noise in the breakfast room and no poolside entertainment, but time for you and your companion. Whether you are looking for a wellness weekend, a wine break in the Rheingau or a few peaceful days in the uplands, the curated selection makes choosing easier. Filter by category and facilities to find the property that matches your idea of a child-free break in Hesse.
